Totally new to hacking. Please help?

Hi,

So I have pretty much no knowledge on the subject of hacking. I am very interested in learning everything that I can about this topic because it has always been a dream of mine to be an ethical hacker or pen tester when I get older.
I am very smart, and a fast learner, but I tend to learn best when I can have what I'm learning in a book. So I was wondering if you all could suggest some of the most highly regarded books pertaining to the topic of ethical hacking. I need a book that will teach me about ethical hacking from the very basics to having a good understanding of ethical hacking. Then some other books to further increase my knowledge would be nice.
Oh yeah and a little motivational speech would be great!
